Hii,
My name is Calima, and I’m asking for your help sharing my story or donating if possible during a very important moment in my life.
This is not easy for me to write. I’m someone who considers to be a hard working person, who tries to figure things out quietly, and who doesn’t like asking for help unless it’s truly necessary. But right now, I’m at a point where I can’t do this alone. I am an undocumented immigrant living in the US, and my current financial situation—combined with the very real limitations that come with my immigration status—has made it extremely difficult to move my case forward. Finding and securing an immigration lawyer has been challenging, not because I don’t want to do things the right way, but because access to legal help is expensive and increasingly limited.
Under the current U.S. administration, many nonprofit organizations that once helped people like me are now underfunded, overwhelmed, or unable to take on new cases. Resources that used to exist simply aren’t there anymore. At the same time, deportations have increased, and the fear that comes with that is constant and heavy. It affects how you sleep, how you work, and how you move through the world.
On top of this, I experienced discrimination at my previous job, which forced me to leave an already unstable situation. I’ve since found new work, but it does not pay enough to realistically cover the legal fees, paperwork costs, and time off required to attend immigration and legal appointments. I’m doing everything I can—but it’s not enough to move this process forward quickly or safely on my own.
The funds raised through this campaign will go entirely toward:
Immigration lawyer fees
Filing and paperwork costs
Transportation and errands related to my case
Covering days of lost wages when I must attend legal or immigration appointments
This support would give me something that feels very rare right now: breathing room. Time to focus on doing things correctly. Time to protect myself. Time to move forward without living in constant fear of what could happen next.
If you’re able to donate, thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you’re not, sharing this or simply holding me in your thoughts means more than you know. Every bit of support—financial or otherwise—helps me feel less alone in this process.
Thank you so much for reading! <3
With gratitude,
Calima
