Dan was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2010. This disease has progressed over the last 15 years, with Rachel stepping in as his primary caregiver, along with help from the kids, Soph and Dominic.
Over time, caring for Dan at home has become unsustainable for the family. After much thought and consideration, it's apparent that the safest next step is for Dan to move to assisted living. None of this is easy for him or for us as this transition is as emotional as it is practical. We are doing our best to take care of him, and we are deeply grateful for anyone who’s willing to walk through this next chapter with us.
If you are unfamiliar with Parkinson's Disease, here is a brief description of what Dan has been dealing with for several years.
Parkinson’s is more than a movement disorder. For Dan, it has progressed to the point where his cognition and balance are significantly affected, making everyday life—and even simple moments—increasingly unsafe.
Assisted living offers round-the-clock support, medication management, and a safer environment—while still allowing Dan as much independence as possible. This move is not about giving up; it’s about ensuring his well-being and safety, and giving our family the support we need to continue showing up for him with love.
Our goal is to cover the first year of his care with this fundraiser. We know not everyone can give financially, and that’s okay—sharing this, holding us in your thoughts, or simply reaching out are all deeply appreciated. Thank you for being part of our community.
