Raising Funds for Danny

Donation protected
Danny Florey is ‘that guy’. That ‘one of a kind’, ‘once in a lifetime’ guy who impacts our lives with a welcoming smile, a wave and sometimes an interested inquiry about our families or our health ( if there is time and no other vehicle waiting to get into the gate at Waterfall). Danny has been our reliable guy – manning the front entrance to the Waterfall at Lake Burton for the past fourteen years.

We have had other nice folks to man the entrance, but they have come and gone while Danny remains faithful to his task. We appreciate his faithfulness and his reliability because truth be told none of us likes change and it takes time for a newly hired guard to get to know each of us who drive through that gate. There is a big difference in having to explain to the new person who we are and why we need to be allowed to pass and the ease and welcome we feel when Danny steps to the door, gives us a grin, asks where we are going and waves us through.

Recently though, Danny’s grin has been tinged with more concern than is his usual demeanor. In February when he went for his annual dermatological exam, he had a little bump on his head that the doctor looked at and then suggested that it be watched for a bit…nothing to really worry about. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case. By late July, the diagnosis had been confirmed. Danny is suffering from a treatable, but incurable form of B cell follicular cellular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. It isn’t life threatening at this point, but as Danny himself says, “ You’ll see me and I’ll look fine. Another day, I may look like a Klingon.” ( Star Wars reference…The Klingons weren’t the most attractive alien species in the movie.)

Add to that the discovery of spots on both his liver and his pancreas. Biopsies have been taken more than once to determine exactly what they are and how they might affect Danny’s overall health. The good news is that the spots on his liver are not cancerous. The jury is still out as the doctors try to determine what has shown up on his pancreas. Danny will begin chemo treatments the first week in November in an effort to be proactive about the cancer affecting his head and then he’ll follow whatever protocol the medical team suggests if there should indeed be a need to attend to his pancreas.

Though the past months while Danny has been dealing with the worry about his health and the possible financial impact his time away from work may have on his family, he has remained a stalwart member of the Waterfall family. He is there like the mailman – in rain, in snow, in the heat or cold – we can count on Danny.

And, now we can let Danny know he can count on us – his friends who come through the gate on their way home or to play a round of golf or to have dinner or meet friends or go to exercise. There are a lot of us and we can make a difference in Danny’s current situation by sharing a bit of our good fortune with him.

Donations made will be paid 100% directly to Danny to use as he and his family see fit.

So, click, contribute and show a little love to the guy who shares his love with us every day!

Thanks so much for your participation!
