This is our story...
Bodhi had a bad bruise on her knee on a Tuesday. I didn't think too much of it at the time because she is/was so active. She told me it came from recess. The next evening when I was helping Bodhi wash her beautiful sun kissed golden hair that I noticed bad bruises on her back! These looked like she was being hit with an object. She had three. I was alarmed. I asked her over and over what happened. She didn't know and they didn't hurt. I sent her to school the next day, Thursday. She came home with ANOTHER bad bruise on her forearm. I was bad enough for her teacher to take notice. I asked everyone I could think of if they knew how she was getting these. That evening I showed my husband the new bruises and it was if another one appeared on her shin. It was at that moment I made the decision to take her to the ER.
While at the ER I had to endure the suspicion of abuse, but when the Dr. asked what she eats she proceeded to tell him that we are vegetarian. The Dr. said "bingo" and got her blood drawn.
After about an hour or so the Dr. came back with a very distraught look. He said, after a pause that seemed like an hour, "Its not good." He then further explained her white blood cell count was extremely high and that it was cause for serious concern. Thats when the world stopped turning and I began to spin. We were rushed off to the other hospital that has a pediatric floor by ambulance. Keep in mind my athletic active daughter was acting and feeling fine. She was so scared. She kept asking "What's wrong with me?" and "Why is this happening? Why can't we just go home?"
We spent a solid week in the hospital with immediate aggressive treatment and lots of yucky medicines. More answers were to come that helped us accept this new reality. I own my own business and had to turn away a job with a brand new client during our stay. I've never done that.
That was September/October and here we are in the new year. Bodhi has had to be on a month of heavysteroids, she has had numerous whole blood transfusions as well as platelets and a couple more trips to the ER, cranial radiation x8, of course chemotherapies and multiple spinal taps. This is not the end either! Her treatment is about 2.5 years. She just had surgery this past week to have a port put in. She had a picc line, but the dressing on it started to deteriorate her skin. I'll tell you what though, she has been so strong. We find our strength through her. I couldn't be more proud to be her mom right now.
Bodhi can't go to school, cheer or go to the skate park to skate with her brother. To say this has been an incredible journey good and bad would be an understatement. Bills are going to start pouring in, this is where we need help like many others out there, since Bodhi is my full time job right now.

My name is Tracy, and I met Bodhi Boul, a vibrant and loving 1st grader at Oak Grove Elementary, in July of 2016 after moving next door. My daughter and Bodhi are the same age and they became fast friends, having spent many summer days and school night evenings playing together.
Bodhi's parents, Emily and Bruce, are some of the most awesome people you will ever meet. They are grounded, hard working, and provide an awesome life for their 2 kids; they are constantly going on adventures, whether walking the fairy trails, spending their days at the beach, or going camping in Northern California.
On September 27th, Emily took Bodhi to the ER after unexplained bruises started appearing. After initial blood tests came back with elevated white blood cell counts, they transferred her to Kaiser in Anaheim, which has a great pediatric unit.
Today, September 29th, doctors have confirmed Bodhi has leukemia. She is facing a long road of chemo ahead.
This is every parent's worst nightmare. Emily and Bruce have done everything from the start to provide Bodhi the best and healthiest life. Everyone is still in shock about the diagnosis. In order to help alleviate the financial burden (they are looking at possibly 2 years of chemo needed), I am setting up this Go Fund Me to help offset the expenses they will face moving forward.
