Raising funds for Autism Unit

Autism is a fast-growing developmental disability. Raising awareness for Autism is

essential, helping people understand and accept that autistic individuals are just

that…unique individuals who should not have to change themselves to suit the wants of others. However, this fundraiser is not just about raising awareness and showing support for Autism; the aim is to raise funds which will go directly to support autistic pupils.

Working with autistic pupils every day is a challenging but rewarding profession.

Canolfan Cothi is an Autistic unit within a secondary school. We are located in

Llandeilo and have pupils from all over Carmarthenshire attend our unit. The

teachers and staff work with the pupils to support them as individuals. The centre

provides tailored learning opportunities and supports pupils' emotional, social, and

communicative development.

Introducing and supporting our pupils with a variety of new activities and experiences

is a big part of what we do at Canolfan Cothi. The benefits of new experiences are

many. They stimulate the brain, creating neural pathways and can help improve

sensory processing systems. They can help improve social, communication,

cooperation and coordination skills as well as supporting emotional development and

managing feelings, which can help when they are feeling overwhelmed.

So we are raising funds to continue developing and expanding the range of

experiences and activities we can offer at Canolfan Cothi to benefit our pupils.

On Saturday the 28th June, staff and families from Ysgol BroDinefwr, Canolfan Cothi Autism Unit will be taking part in a Walk-a-thon along the Millennium Coastal Path in Llanelli.

The route is 13 miles one way and 26 miles round trip. Everyone taking part will be walking various distances, including some participants who will be attempting the full 26 mile route.
