Hi, my name is Austin. I’m 23 years old, and this year I was officially diagnosed with an early-onset, severe, and progressive form of Chronic Idiopathic Axonal Polyneuropathy (CIAP).

This is a rare condition that typically affects people in their 60s and beyond — yet I developed it in my early 20s.

Over the past year, my symptoms have rapidly worsened. I live with constant neuropathic pain, ataxia, fatigue, and widespread numbness. I’ve completely lost sensation in both feet and legs, and the numbness is now progressing into my hands. Because of the weakness, pain, and severe fatigue, I can no longer safely or consistently use a manual wheelchair or walker.

My specialists have confirmed that my condition will not improve. It is permanent, degenerative, and unfortunately expected to progress further.

I am fundraising for a powered wheelchair, which would give me the independence to continue studying and living as safely and comfortably as possible. My family and I are unable to afford one at this time, especially with the additional home modifications required to accommodate my disability.
