Walking 24km to raise funds for Ollie's Prosthetic Leg
Donation protected
On Saturday 22nd June Lianne Lippett and I will both be walking 24km from Cirencester to Painswick taking part in the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge to raise as much as we possibly can for a very brave young man.
On the 18th of March, 16 year old Ollie broke his leg whilst sparring at the gym in the boxing ring. After the examinations at the hospital, the X-Rays showed a tumor at the break site.
Ollie underwent various tests and a bone biopsy while admitted to hospital. When the results returned, the news wasn't good, and Ollie was diagnosed with an extremely rare type of cancer, Adamantinoma.
Adamantinoma is found in only 1 in 1.9 million people, and what we had thought were shin splints for over two years had actually turned out to be something unthinkable.
This, however, didn't deter Ollie, and with his leg plastered purple, and a hospital borrowed wheelchair he went back to school.
Unfortunately, further tests revealed the cancer had spread, and Ollie was left with two treatment options. Limb salvation which would result ankle fusion. muscle loss, deformity, mobility restriction and a possible return of cancer, or amputation above the knee.
Ollie made the brave decision to have his leg amputated for which he hopes will lead to a better quality of life, and more importantly, a higher survival chance.
Ollie should currently be taking his GCSE's and has his leavers prom to attend. He is going through hell but continues to smile everyday.
We are asking for anyone who can help, even if it's just the cost of a coffee by donating to help raise the funds for a prosthetic leg, which will give Ollie the mobility required to help continue with day to day life, and his love for boxing, with as little impact as possible.
Let's help him reach his target!!
Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.
