Raising Funds for a Beloved Retired Heritage Park Horse
Hi, my name is Hannah. Back in the fall of 2022, my family retired one of Heritage Park's longstanding draft horse wagon teams: Mac and Cap (Cheese). Mac and Cap dedicated over a decade of their life to Heritage Park in Calgary Alberta, being one of the most dependable, steady, and magical draft horse teams in Heritage Park's recent years.
Born in 2001, Mac and Cap have been enjoying their golden years of retirement on our ranch south of the city for the past 2 and a half years, becoming immediately part of our family's herd of horses and soaking up the rolling green foothills of Alberta.
This winter has been especially tough on Mac. Being 24 years old, and enduring the gruelling cold weather that has followed us into 2025, Mac has had to be admitted to Moore Equine North in Airdrie on February 11, 2025, with a complicated impaction colic from a combination of the cold weather, his aging body, and not staying as hydrated as he should, despite having access to flowing clean water.
Though our family is ultimately prepared to take on this vet bill for our beloved Mac, costs are going up for livestock management. We were not expecting to have to take on an unexpected vet visit of this caliber. Mac is still admitted at Moore as of today (Feb 18th) and is slowly making progress, but we are looking at a bill sitting at around $5000 for his treatment as of right now. Mac is not currently able to return home yet. It breaks my heart to see Cap in his paddock by himself, as I know he is missing his lifelong partner Mac just as much as we are.
We are hoping that if anyone remembers Mac and Cap, has ever taken a wagon ride from Mac and Cap at the Park, and is willing to aid with Mac's recovery and make this vet bill more palatable for our family, we would be forever grateful.
I will be providing updates on my Instagram about Mac and when he is able to return home @hannahfrankie13
