I'm launching this GFM page as recently my family and I had a touch of bad luck. On Friday the 26th of July our family home fell victim burglary. The undesirable individuals stole approximately £3900 worth of electronics items from us.
My partner and I have been full-time mature students for the last three years, and money has been tight! All our income has gone into maintaining the roof over our heads and providing necessities for our little boy. Insurance is a luxury that we couldn't afford on top of all the essential bills that come with keeping a family. We chose not to get contents insurance for one simple reason; we could not afford it.
We saved for the items stolen from us, using Christmas or birthday money, and hardship bursaries that we collected over the years, and we topped it up by doing freelance jobs in our future disciplines. It's s been a tough but rewarding road for us to walk. Now, as we are both at the final stages of our studies, we have lost vital equipment that severely hinders our future studies. Personally, I have two weeks left until my final university work has to be handed in, but I'm sure I can retrieve my work. My partner, on the other hand, can not. She has one more year to study for her degree, and without a MacBook, she will struggle to come close to passing her final year in fashion design. Even though I've lost my iMac, GoPro and numerous other bits of recording equipment, I feel bad for her. I've practically passed my music degree, and I can save again and re-build what I lost knowing I achieved my goal and am now able to move forward in my life.
What guts me more than anything, is knowing that at the moment we can't afford to replace the MacBook she uses to study with. I look at all the hard graft that she puts into her work and think of all the things she has sacrificed to better herself and our family, and it kills me that someone has taken all that sacrifice and effort away from her. She is such an amazing and talented designer. She has been a huge inspiration to me, and a benchmark of what it takes to succeed. I look at hir work, and the passion shes shows for her craft, and it blows me away.
More than anything I would like for her to be able to carry on and succeed in achieving her goals. I can't get back the work that has been taken from her, but I can try and give her a fighting chance to nail her degree with your help.
The cost of everything we lost is approximately £3900, but I'm not asking for that. I'll work and save overtime for the items I had stolen. I'm asking for your help to raise £1099 so that my hard-working, talented and inspirational partner can get back on the horse as soon as possible, and smash her degree like I know she can with a new Macbook. You can view her hard work on instagram @seww_what .
Please donate whatever you can, no amount is too small, and every penny will be appreciated.
Thank you all so much for your kind and generous support.
