Fundraising for medical bills and treatment

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters,

Barbara was diagnosed with a very rare, inoperable brainstem glioma in May 2021 at the age of 31 in Hungary. My cousin is the most hard-working, diligent, family-oriented person that I know of who also played soccer semi-professionally up until her diagnosis.
Her work ethic is unquestionable, she keeps working to be able to pay for her medical expenses but her symptoms are making her everyday-life very difficult. In the past 6 months, unfortunately the tumor has grown, causing her double-vision, movement coordination problems and paralysis ont he left side of her face.
In the past 2,5 years, she has visited all the specialists available for possible treatments but the options are very limited in Hungary. She has contacted numerous specialists in Germany and recently has become a patient of Heidelberg University Hospital. It not only took her a great amount of time, energy and courage to come this far already but also depleted her and her family’s savings. She needs to undergo biopsy to determine the best available targeted medical treatment possible with radiation therapy and have a chance to become a candidate for clinical trials. Unfortunately this type of treatment comes with a huge amount of medical expense, accomodation and travelling costs for her and for a family member because she is unable to drive with the symptoms she is experiencing.
If you are in a position to donate, we would greatly appreciate it, even a share would come a long way for her and be amazingly helpful during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Dear Beloved Family, Friends, and Supporters,

As of the 15th of April, I would like to give you some update:

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who has been helping Barbara in any way during this incredibly difficult time.

In February 7th, the biopsy was performed successfully at the Heidelberg University Hospital. The exact diagnosis is astrocytoma who 2°, idh-mutated, mgmt-promoter methylated brainstem glioma. For this type of benign glioma, the best available treatment possible is 6 weeks of proton beam therapy followed by 1 year of chemotherapy.

The proton beam therapy is available in Heidelberg but it comes with huge amount of medical expenses. This treatment alone costs 95.000 Euros and it is not covered, nor supported by Hungarian health insurance even though proton beam therapy is not available in her home country . So far 60.000 Euros has been collected through this incredible community, but she needs an additional 35.000 Euros for treatment, not including the chemotherapy and the additional costs that might be needed in the future. She can most likely start treatment in the upcoming weeks but needs to pay that additional 35.000 Euros in the next 3-4 weeks. For those 6 weeks she needs to stay in Heidelberg and might need to be hospitalized, depending on her reaction to the treatment.

Barbara is extraordinarily diligent and persistent, she has only taken a few sick days off from her work after the biopsy. Unfortunately, she might not be able to work for an uncertain period.
Barbara is incredibly grateful for the people who have been able to help and assist her in any way. Any kind of support is still greatly appreciated to reach our goal of Barbara’s full recovery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

With gratitude,
