In Memory of My Mum – Four Years On
Hello Everyone,
Four years ago today, on 2nd July 2023, I experienced the most heartbreaking day of my life—the day my beloved mother, Yvette, passed away due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which had worsened and ultimately led to sepsis.
Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s response to an infection spirals out of control, causing widespread inflammation and damage to its own tissues and organs. If left untreated, it can rapidly escalate into septic shock, leading to a sudden drop in blood pressure and failure of vital organs such as the lungs, kidneys, and liver.
Unlike septicaemia (now more commonly known as bacteraemia, or bacteria in the bloodstream), sepsis can result from any type of infection—bacterial, viral, or fungal. It is the result of an immune system overreaction, attacking not only the infection but the body itself.
Despite progress in modern medicine, sepsis remains the leading cause of preventable death worldwide. It is fast-acting, indiscriminate, and often misunderstood—making awareness, education, and early intervention absolutely vital.
In memory of my mum, Yvette, and in my role as her beloved son, I have chosen to support Sepsis Research FEAT, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and funding life-saving research to better understand, diagnose, and treat this devastating illness. Today, there is still no specific cure for sepsis, which makes their work more urgent than ever.
On behalf of my mum and myself, thank you for your support. Whether you contribute by donating, sharing this message, or simply taking a moment to learn more about sepsis—you are helping us honour her memory and protect the lives of others.
With heartfelt gratitude and love
Denis, her beloved son
