"SOME DAYS THERE WON'T BE A SONG IN YOUR HEART.....SING ANYWAY" - EMORY AUSTIN.Our whole life our home was filled with a beautiful serenade, from sunrise to sunset. Whether she was cooking or doing laundry our mom's voice carried a certain melody throughout each and every room. The simple things life offered made mom happy and random acts of kindness defined mom for who she is. The saying ‘I’d give the shirt off my back …’ truly describes her. If you were sick Ms. Pinki had the healing touch your body needed, if you were hungry Ms. Pinki had the perfect dish your soul needed and if you ever felt lost or alone Ms. Pinki had the companionship that our hearts needed. So it’s true when they say cancer doesn’t discriminate because as time has faded by so did that harmony, and now we sit in a quiet home waiting for that voice to flow through and bring along the happiness that it once carried.
In our lives we all have days that we will never forget. For us it was September 12th 2016, our family waiting in the hospital lobby for mom to finish her routine check up. As I saw her doctor approaching he brought with him a look of concern and a chill to the already cold hospital lobby. He began to explain her condition and what her body has been going through, we listened diligently hoping to hear the phrase, “Not to worry, she will be just fine”. However, those words never made it out the doctor’s mouth, instead he uttered that mom had rectal cancer. The next minute might have been the longest 60 seconds of my life, the shock caused my dads body to drop to the floor as if someone just pulled the life out of him, my sister ran out of the hospital in tears and for myself it felt as if every wall in that lobby was closing in. The only thought at this point was ‘Why her?’. The woman who always made it a priority to make sure everyone was happy and healthy was the one who needed the help all along. 
These past few months there has been a different tune being sung in our home, songs of prayer and faith. Mom has always been religious and has instilled in us the power of prayer, but I find myself getting weary as I see what she is going through and the question still remains ‘Why her?’. This is not the first time our family has had such crushing news. In 2011 our dad and mom had been victims of a ponzi scheme that left us down to nothing. Our entire savings, parents retirement and every dollar mom and dad worked hard for when they came to this country had been taken. With 3 children, the oldest recently married, the middle just starting college and the youngest in high school life was about to make a drastic change. We went from planning our next family vacation to now planning part time jobs and where we can cut back to save money. Something of this magnitude would have built a deep hate, distrust, an almost cold dark place in a person's heart for any outsider. But mom picked herself back up and still continued helping others, trusting others and more importantly having faith that there is still some good in humanity. 
We as a family feel now it's time for our mom to receive the same care, help and support she provided to so many. Her diagnosis is aggressive and requires alternatives treatments so she can heal her immune system to fight this cancer. The medical necessities that Ms.Pinki is needing are far overwhelming and financial straining. The family has come together and has provided financial assistance to get treatment started immediately, however it is just the beginning. The contributions we are requesting are for her continuous treatment over the next year. We ask you to keep our mother in your prayers and we thank you deeply for any contribution you can make towards her journey. 
Her grand daughters now look forward to the days they can hear their nani (grandmother) sing and bring sunshine back into our home.
