Raise your hat for RISE
Hello! I'm Lulu, an author and artist. This campaign is to raise funds for RISE, a Sussex-based charity that supports people affected by domestic abuse and violence.

I started researching domestic violence for my first book (Twice the Speed of Dark, published by Unbound.) I wrote the story of a character stuck in a coercive, violent relationship - and found it very upsetting. I really wanted to be able to help the real women and children who find themselves in this situation in real life. The conditions of lockdown have made the services of charities such as RISE sadly more necessary than ever.
When lockdown started, I began a project called Haturdays. in which I make a hat every Saturday, from what I can find in the house. Lockdown is coming to an end but people seem to enjoy the hats and so I decided I would keep making a hat every Saturday, for a full year and I would ask people to show their support by contributing to this fundraiser. The hats will appear on instagram,@ Haturdays and I will post updates here.
It's Saturday, I am about to start making my 19th hat since the project started. This fundraiser will mean I am going to make another 33 to complete the year. I would love it if you could encourage me, perhaps a pound a hat, or a sum for the whole project. I will be adding further rewards and encouragements as the weeks go by, so stay tuned.
