We are changing the conversation around racial justice and cultural allyship - one cabaret at a time - and we want your help to do it!

This country needs Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret right now. We take audiences on a journey exploring privilege and allyship, exploding white fragility along the way - and, we make sure they are having a damn good time the whole ride. These conversations need to be happening as we keep building a movement for racial justice in the USA. We know the power of art to create change. Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret won't just be starting these conversations - we will be changing hearts and minds, moving folks from being just an ally to being a true accomplice.
Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret is going to be a groundbreaking show exploring these essential topics through circus, magic, drag, puppets, and a whole lotta queer camp. We premiere April 2nd on the stage of the prestigious Kingsbury Hall - and we will be BROADCASTING IT TO THE WORLD! We figured if we can't have a live audience, let's dream bigger! Now, to make those dreams into a reality we need you to make a donation.
Your donations are needed to help us level up our camera equipment and crew so we can have a brilliant broadcast and to help us build a dazzling stage centerpiece. We have already given the show a huge glow up, bringing in a large, talented crew to bring Beatrice Thomas's fantastical vision to life. A lot of this is thanks to a big grant we got to take the show on tour. That's right, April 2nd is just the beginning - we plan on bringing Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret across the country and even the world! And no pandemic is gonna slow us down.
We are bringing in a studio level multi-cam setup and crew so we can make a cinema-quality recording for the show's premiere. Everything will still be set on the stage - where we will be bringing you Vegas glitz and glam - but instead of a live audience we will have an audience all over the country. After the premiere, we will be able to remotely tour and engage with new communities using the recording. We'll also be able to use it to help us line up more presenters for our in-person tour in 2022. This isn't just a one-off - you will be helping us bring Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret to thousands more people over the coming year.
Your donation will also be helping us build a glamorous centerpiece for the show that will be able to be used for the full tour. Our creative director has gone above and beyond to create a gorgeous modular setpiece that - literally - elevates the show. The vision is a bit above what we had budgeted towards set design, and it's so worth it! I mean, check it out. Those big stair-like pieces in front? They all peel away to be used to set each scene differently. And, there's a bit of other magic we are working in - but that'll have to be a surprise. Just know you are helping us build something that will define the show and tour.
So, our expected costs for these two core elements to the show is:
VIDEO BROADCAST & CAMERA EQUIPMENT RENTAL: $7,000
SET BUILD COST: $8,000
TOTAL = $15,000
If we can raise the $15,000 goal through this crowdfunding campaign our production dreams will be granted and we will be able to truly GLOW UP this show!
