"Raise the Roof" for Wayne Morris: Rebuilding After the Fire

FARNHAM RD. Bible Hill NS Fire, May 13, 2025

When I was new to town and barely had two nickels to rub together, my car broke down. I didn’t know many people, and I certainly couldn’t afford a big repair bill. A few days after my car had broken down, I was walking past the house on Farnham Road When I saw an elderly gentleman tinkering away on a vehicle in his garage… and I mustered up the courage to ask him if he might be able to give me some advice on how I could maybe fix my car myself. He took one look at me (and I’m sure saw someone who likely looked like they didn’t know the first thing about fixing a car), and that’s when Wayne Morris, a man I had never met before that time, told me how I could get it running long enough to get it down the road… and told me to bring it by his garage. He spent hours working on it and only charged me for the parts. I’ll never forget that kindness. Having that car fixed meant I was able to get back and forth to school… which has led me to where I am today, seven years later.
That’s just the kind of man Wayne is. Quiet, generous, and always ready to lend a hand…no fuss, no praise needed. And I know I’m not the only one who has a story like this.

Every single person I’ve ever spoken to who knows Wayne has said the same thing: he’s one of the good ones.

On May 13th of this year, Wayne lost his hobby garage to a fire. The place that kept him busy and grounded in his later years, his little sanctuary, is now nothing but a pile of ash. To make matters worse, the garage wasn’t insured. On top of that heartbreak, Wayne is now home, but still recovering from smoke inhalation, and some serious heart issues doctors discovered while he was hospitalized, that he hadn’t known about.

In speaking with his wife, Rita, I learned that Wayne has already told her that he is hoping to rebuild a smaller garage, something more manageable to keep him going in the years ahead. But that dream seems ever so far out of reach for them at this time.

That’s where we come in.

Wayne has given SOOO much to this community, and never once asked for anything in return. Now it’s our turn to rally for him. Please donate to help Wayne rebuild that garage, not just for the tools or the space, but for the dignity and purpose it brought him. He deserves to have that back. He deserves to feel the support of the community he's been quietly holding up for decades.

If you’ve ever been helped by Wayne, or even just heard one of the countless stories of his generosity, please consider getting involved. Donate, share the campaign, or contact me to learn about the other ways you can help.

Please do whatever you can do; it matters.

Let’s help give something back to a man who has given so much to so many in his 81 years on this earth!
