Just over ten years ago, my dad, Ray, was diagnosed with a progressive, terminal disease, called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. IPF is something that - even with the best doctors and treatments - can’t be stopped. The best modern medicine can do is slow it down.
My mom, Mary, recently retired so that she can care for my dad full time, but with that came enrolling in Medicare. While my mom’s previous private insurance covered my dad’s prescriptions with manageable copays, this is no longer the case. The Esbriet my dad needs to slow the progress of his disease and preserve a quality of life for what time he has left, comes with a monthly co-pay of over $3,000.
February 14, we received the news that my mom has pancreatic cancer. We are devastated. But as the shock is processed, we are gaining determination to fight. While we come to grips with the difficult road ahead and make a plan for Mary’s care, so many have offered their love, support and prayers. We are thankful for all of them.
As we proceed, we will let the medical people do their part, and I am hoping you can help me send them support for the substantial costs of both of their treatments and any at home care that is needed.
For all of these years, my parents have been providers, helpers, care givers. It is now time for them to receive some help. We understand times are difficult for many and truly appreciate every share of this page and every contribution.
Please keep us in your prayers and thank you for the outpouring of love and support.
