Raise the Roof at Elm Knoll Farm

My name is Rene Boardman and I am trying to raise money to help our dear family friend and fellow dairy farmer, David Jacquier of Elm Knoll Farm. During the recent snowstorm, David’s heifer barn at Elm Knoll suffered a roof collapse. Thankfully no people were injured, but unfortunately he did lose 3 cows. Today was spent helping him clear debris with friends, family, and fellow farmers so we could get the remaining cattle to safety in another barn.

For those who are not familiar with the industry, dairy farming, is a labor of love. It’s a very labor intensive way of life, and oftentimes a challenging one. David has been milking cows for decades. In fact, it’s been 55 years this week. Elm Knoll Farm suffered a tragic fire years ago, and my heart aches for the situation he is faced with today. I’m hoping this community and our farming community can come together in order to help David rebuild. Canaan needs our dairy farms!

For those who might not know David, his involvement in the community is noteworthy. He was on the Canaan Board of Tax Review for 20+ years, is a former Housatonic Valley Agricultural Education Advisory Committee Member, a former Director of the Agri-Mark/Cabot Dairy Cooperative, a Housatonic Valley FFA Alumni Member, and a huge supporter of our local Busy Farmers 4H Club- where he spends hours every summer prepping the grounds for and cleaning up after the Jack Brown Fair. David’s family includes, wife Melody, his children John, Hope, Dawn, Paul, and numerous grandchildren.
