Hi, my name is Mayank, and I'm fundraising the final portion of funds to afford an editor for my childhood passion project.
It started back in 2016, when an author came to do a talk at my primary school. After the talk, one of my friends suggested that 'we should write a book'. I still to this day have no idea if he was being sarcastic, but I immediately jumped at the opportunity. I had always been into writing, ever since the age of 5, so you could almost say I had been waiting for an occurrence like this. I ran up to the library, gathered a bunch of papers, folded and stapled them together in a blank, makeshift book, and shot back down. Ignoring his bewilderment, I asked 'What should we call it, then?' and took out a pen. And so 'Tribal Clash' was born.
It was an imaginative fantasy scribbled in coach journeys, planned during breaktimes, and whispered about to each other in classes. By the end of that year, we had finished writing the first book, complete with mock-up collector cards and hand-drawn illustrations. My father generously worked to help print the first book, digitising all the hand-drawn illustrations, employing a ghost-writer, and getting the cards made into a small pack. Spurred on, we continued and wrote a sequel, and even got it digitised as well.
However, as we started on the third book, one of the four co-authors changed schools. Thus, the project stagnated and grinded to a halt, where it lay collecting dust in the corners of my shelf and brain for half a decade. In retrospect, this was almost a blessing.
As a writer, and this being the first writing project that I had been properly devoted to, the series never truly left my mind, Hence, I still often thought about it, to the effect of me subconsciously planning the entire series' narrative past and future in my head. The printed copy of the first book lay in the library of my primary school, even after I had even left. So a chance encounter with my primary school teacher, and finding out that people were not only reading that printed copy, but asking for the sequel, drove the passion right back into me.
Not long after, I had jumped right back into Tribal Clash, blessed with an overarching narrative backbone. In 2022, I returned to it with clarity and purpose, rewriting from the ground up. The world is richer. The characters are flawed, fierce, and real. The plot now has backbone, consequence, and heart.
I restarted this endeavour in 2022, and now, in 2025, in between studies and other things, I have succeeded in rewriting the first book. While unfortunately no longer having trading cards at the back, or pictures, it is improved in many other ways. The project is now approaching 60k words, which, while not massive for a fantasy fiction, is a substantial elevation from the 2k word printed copy of 2016. I have had it proofread multiple times by myself and the single remaining member of the original team that is still part of the project. It has also been distributed to and provided with feedback by 7 beta-readers, all whom have completed an extensive, 40+ question form regarding their assessment, which I have incorporated back into the final draft. This draft is now ready to be edited.
My co-author (from 2016) and I have amassed roughly £1500, yet seem to have grossly underestimated the price of an editor, and fall £600 short.
Hence, we need £600 more to finally make this nere-decade long passion project into a tangible reality, which we can only do with your help! With school nearing its close, our final window to release this before
university is narrowing, and we endeavour to get this book into its final stages and aptly out of our hands, hopefully as 'perfected' as possible before Autumn this year. Past then, we fear that the shift in lifestyle and responsibilities will likely take up our time, and by then the process will become both prolonged, and much harder.
Furthermore, my co-author, is offering to do a 10km run each day for a week to bring this to fruition, which will be both entertaining to watch, as well as an extra incentive. So, please, help us seal the deal for Tribal Clash: Golden Dawn, and bring this decade-long dream home!
Brief Outline of Tribal Clash:
Tribal Clash: Golden Dawn is the first book in a prospective series of seven. It follows three interspecies, tribal chiefs as they navigate an uneasy transition from warring tribes to reluctant allies. Forced into this alliance by a the reappearance of a fourth tribe thought long-dead, they must learn to cooperate or be swallowed by a rising darkness. As ancient gods stir and primal forces fracture the balance of the world, destiny threads them together in a cataclysmic chain of events that none of them fully understand.
The novel features:
- Deep, grounded worldbuilding that explores tribal conflict, soft magic, and broken legacies.
- A cast of morally complex, endearing characters, each with arcs that evolve across a multi-book saga.
- Themes of loss, identity, power, and forgiveness, all rooted in a mythology as vast as it is mysterious.
Though Golden Dawn is the beginning, its roots are vast. Readers can expect a saga that grows deeper and more poignant with every book.
We’re nearly there. With your help, this story can finally begin its journey. Every pound helps. Every share matters. Every kind word lifts us further. Help bring Tribal Clash: Golden Dawn home!
Thank you so much for reading!
