A little known fact about my energetic, creative and sparkly lil 7yr old is that every night when she lays down to sleep she has an anxiety attack that she is going to vomit or stop breathing. Many nights she has.

Teazal (brothers nickname for her) was born with restricted airways. Instead of growing out of it, her breathing problems have only gotten worse. Over the past 3 years Teazal has had increasing episodes of her waking gasping and confused, insomnia and restlessness. When ever she lays down she can feel her tonsils in her throat. Catching a cold or the slightest irritation in her throat makes her terrified. TT (nickname from school) has had periods of avoiding food for fear of choking. This last month has been tough with spring causing her hay fever symptoms.

All she needs is her tonsils and adenoids removed. After 2years on the public waiting list, GP visits, specialist reviews and multiple late night attendances to the emergency department we are still 4-8months away from this simple surgery. The emergency Drs and Specialists say that unless she is turning blue her surgery is not urgent!! Those who know her would agree she is very brave but the bedtime panic attacks are desperately affecting her quality of life.

Last week we met a wonderful specialist who can do the surgery in 2-3wks at the closest private hospital. The risk of bleeding after the surgery means she cant go to school and I have to stay close to her for 2wks. Because we live an hour away from any Level 5 hospital, also need to be prepared to get accomodation near a hospital if there are any complications during the surgery.

We have been through so much already. It's time for my Teazal to breath easy

Teazal's, and her two older brothers, dad and I seperated 5yrs ago. It has been challenging for me to work through COVID lock downs, several family set backs, her attachment anxiety and due to moving every 6 months since the disastrous floods in 2022. I am a local midwife of 15yrs and I love my job but being on call has been near impossible over the past 2years.

I would just like to see my lil' girl fall asleep without fear and get the BEST care possible, as soon as possible.
