From the Bronx to Barcelona

Hi, my name is Zaraya. I'm 16 years old and currently attending KIPP as a junior. This year, I’ve grown so much as a student, taking college-level chemistry and AP English, and I recently got accepted to a summer program, Spanish Language and Culture in Barcelona, Spain through the CIEE program. Studying abroad this summer holds great significance for me as it provides an opportunity to venture beyond my comfort zone, something I am deeply passionate about. As I embark on my junior year of high school and prepare for my senior year, this experience will contribute immensely to my personal growth and help me appreciate the value of independence, especially with college looming on the horizon. I know that I will grow so much through four weeks of immersion living with a host family, meeting students from all over the world, and experiencing a new and different culture.While in Spain, I intend to forge new connections, immerse myself in the rich language, and explore various landmarks such as the Sagrada Família church, one of the oldest buildings in the region. Having been a part of the KIPP community since elementary school, this journey will also expose me to a different approach to education. I’ve never really traveled before, just family trips to Puerto Rico, and I am hopeful that this experience will build new passions that I’ll hold onto forever.The funds I raise will cover the remaining program tuition and airfare expenses.
