Raise Money To Send My Students To Utah!

As some of you may know, I work in a school in a really deprived area. Our students come from some of the most deprived areas of the country and they therefore have such limited exposure to cultural capital. This can mean anything from having never visited a beach to not owning their own reading books at home. My school is really committed to removing these barriers for children – last year we took 600 kids to the beach, as we really wanted children from all walks of life to experience what all children regardless of financial background should be able to access.

We support families with their Christmas lunch as some wouldn’t be able to afford their Christmas dinners, we buy extensive amounts of uniform and we provide food parcels regularly – these are incredible families in really challenging times.

We have been offered the opportunity to send students to Utah to play basketball – this could mean that they get future scholarships in American colleges. This is an unreal opportunity and one that these kids simply cannot afford. My head has therefore set me a challenge to help raise the money for this – she has told me to put my money where my mouth is. She is fundraising and does so for so many different purposes for these kids and I want to do my bit….what she doesn’t know is that I want to send TWO KIDS. I need £3000 in a month to do this. I have two lads that this would change their lives, my headteacher is hopeful we can send one – let’s show her (and these boys) that people care the way we do about opportunities for young people.
