Raise money for Swofford house fire crisis
Spende geschützt
My father James Swofford (Cowboy) has been in hospice for a few months now and slowly declining he had fell about a month prior and developed a Kennedy ulcer on his tail bone .
(The Kennedy Terminal Ulcer is an unavoidable skin breakdown which occurs in some patients as part of the dying process.) this unclear ended up being about the size of my hand which I had to pack and dress every morning and night. He was in a lot of pain at this point so hospice upped his medication which helped him with the relief he needed to sleep. He still smoked his cigarettes and loved his banana Popsicles when he was awake. He was very weak and could barely stand. Monday night around 10:30pm January 15th I fed him through his feeding tube and changed out his dressing to get him ready for bed since he slept most of the day. I gave him his pain medicine and he wanted his Popsicle so I had him sitting on the side of his bed to have his Popsicle told him to lay down afterwards before the pain meds hit. I told him I'd be back down to check on him in a little bit to make sure he was laying in bed. I was sitting in the living room directly above him listening to the TV and playing a game on my phone about 30 - 40 mins passed I heard the smoke detector go off that I had put in the room next to his. Hearing that I jumped up and ran to the door and open it black smoke poured upstairs but I didn't hesitate to run downstairs to try to put the fire out. The flames were so high I couldn't get close enough to get him out of the fire I had attempted 3 to 4 times before the smoke pushed me out I couldn't breathe or see at this point and had to get out. It kills me I couldn't save him from the fire. My heart breaks with the haunting memories engraved from that night. The detective said the cause of the fire was from a cigarette.By the grace of God I was able to get his cremation taken care of. But for the house I still have a lot to do to be able to get back home. Insurance will only cover for so much and the smoke damage is throughout the entire house. Everything on the lower level was lost.I know everyone is struggling right now and I don't want to pressure anyone to donate if it is too much. I've had some people wanting to help and asked how. Any funds raised will go towards the replacement of belongings such as bedding, washer, dryer , pillows etc for me and my 2 sons. Me and my youngest have horrible allergies and as much as I'm trying to clean to save what little I do have I'm losing at least half of, if not more. I'm also going to save up money for me and my brother to take our father out to Colorado to spread his ashes. I'm going to try to have a celebration of life for my father later on possibly in spring after things settle down and I can get on my feet. I appreciate everyone who has prayed and came to help in this difficult time. - Kihei Swofford
