In 2020 I lost my son Marius to suicide, since then I have vowed to make it my life's work to help as many people as I can who suffer from the same thoughts and feelings as he did. I have done countless surveys, 2 television interviews in my local area and have concluded that there is a huge gap in mental health resources for adolescence, young adults, and veterans in my particular community.
That is why we created the Marius Maximus Foundation for Mental Health, we are a non-profit organization with 501 (c) 3 status that will focus on providing the community of Cumberland County NC with free mental health care, affordable medications, transportation to and from medical appointments as needed, education on Suicide Prevention and Mental Health resources and education. Our focus will be on families that do not qualify for Medicaid or Government assistance and are unable to afford health care through their employer due to the costs, we will provide service to persons ages 12 through 25 and Veterans of all ages.
Just like any other non-profit we need your help with generous donations to provide people with mental health needs. Every penny will go towards the foundation and the needs of the foundation. Cumberland County is the poorest county in NC according to a State Survey done in 2019. Poverty in NC is at 12.7% and of that 12.7% in the population, 10.7% reside within Cumberland County. There are over 252 000 uninsured or underinsured people in Cumberland county. These numbers are merely the tip of the iceberg for the issues that involve health care and poverty within our county.
Please help us raise the money needed to prevent loved ones from harming themselves because they do to have access to the resources and support they deserve. Any amount will make a difference, even the smallest. Help us make a change in the lives of those who are silent about the haunting thoughts in their minds, and for those who do not even understand what is happening to them or why they feel the way they do.
