Hi, my name is Ashley. It is with an extremely heavy heart that I am starting this fundraiser. The last month has been very hard for our family. On February 7th, we received news we were not ready for. Life definitely became very real for us. My oldest sister, Tifini, was diagnosed with, a right posterior inferior frontal and superior insular low-grade glioma. In other words, she has a cancerous brain tumor. This rare tumor is in a part of her brain that requires the hands of only a few surgeons in the world. One of them being in, Chicago. They will be preforming state of the art brain surgery while she is alert and awake. Only a portion of the tumor is removable due to the location and type of tumor she has. This type of tumor will require further surgeries as the tumor grows and at some point, if not after this surgery, she will undergo chemotherapy and radiation. The location of the tumor lies in a part of her brain that is used for motor and speech skills on the left side of her body! Although Tifini has medical insurance, it does not cover everything. She will be in Chicago for a minimum of 2-3 weeks after surgery that is scheduled for March 17th. This has required unforeseen medical and travel expenses that have already started piling up.
