Raise Money for Kentuckians' Abortion Access
Donation protected
Hey gang, take a knee...
Last week the K states made big news:
In Kansas, record numbers of voters came together to protect the right for pregnant people to obtain abortions. Activists at every level organized after the Dobbs decision to get voters registered and empowered to save their rights.
In Kentucky, the court's all out abortion ban went back into effect:
While this is disappointing for the Bluegrass state, Kentucky does have something in common with Kansas: They have organizers who have been working tirelessly for years to help protect anyone seeking abortions.
Abortion access is on the ballot this November in Kentucky. Activists are working hard to defeat Constitutional Amendment 2, which would permanently alter Kentucky’s constitution to allow no protections for abortion care, no matter the circumstance.
That's where we come in:
I'm hosting this GoFundMe for a variety of reproductive justice funds in Kentucky. Due to the ban, and the many states surrounding KY that would similarly seek to ban abortion access, patients are going to need travel funds, and with increased demand on nearby systems, they may need lodging, meals, etc.,
Organizers will likely need legal funds given the Draconian new law. And Activists who are on the ground fighting alongside organizers will need money to keep their organizations going.
So far we've identified several groups that have a long history in the state and can make a difference as soon as today:
KHJN supports Kentuckians towards achieving autonomy in our lives and justice for our communities. We advocate, educate, and provide direct services to ensure all Kentucky communities and individuals have power, access, and resources to be healthy and have agency over our lives.
In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, A Fund helped to fund abortions for 1413 Kentuckiana women, who received care at Louisville’s EMW Women’s Surgical Center and at eleven other clinics in several states. We also sent funds to the University of Louisville Medical School’s Ryan Clinic to defray the cost of inserting long-acting reversible contraceptives that enabled low-income women to plan and space pregnancies.
This coalition formed by the ACLU of Kentucky, Black Birth Workers Alliance, Sister Song, and more aims to fund outreach that can help Kentuckians get the results that Kansans got just last week, by educating and empowering them to vote in their interests.
A small portion of the proceeds will go to paying moderators for an upcoming stream fundraiser that aims to raise even more funds for these groups as we go into the fall. More information on that will be coming soon.
