Raise money for Chris-Stringbean

Donation protected
We are raising money for Stringbean’s wheelchair and rehabilitation program. My beloved companion, Chris Largent, Stringbean to his friends, had a bike accident during practice last Sunday.

Chris fractured his first lumbar vertebrae damaging spinal cord tissue and nerves. The Neurosurgeon inserted two rods and twelve screws into his upper and lower vertebras to stabilize his spine and sculptured around his lumbar fracture to decompress the area around the spinal cord. When he first arrived at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, MO, the doctors quickly concluded after x-rays and MRI there was little hope that he would regain his mobility, and would be paralyzed. There is no use feeling sorry for yourself when your surgeon tells you “to be prepared for the worst and hope for better.”

After Chris’ surgery, I was devastated but Chris did not give up! He looked straight into my eyes and told me “Babe we are going to be okay,” and looking towards his surgeon, he was already talking about riding his motorcycle and getting ready to walk. I have known this man for over four years and have learned how decisive and strong-minded he is. Since surgery, he has pushed himself to the limit. In ICU, the nurses, doctors, and physical therapists already learned that Stringbean is a patient of endless possibilities.

So far, Chris has made great progress. He is still unable to use his lower legs and functions below the waist remain asleep. Chris does not have medical insurance. He is a father of two wonderful children.

After spending over a week at the ICU in Independence Centerpoint Hospital, Chris is soon to be transferred to a rehabilitation hospital to continue physical therapy and increase his chances of mobility.

Chris and I are appealing to the generosity of friends to help us get Chris back on his feet! Our immediate need for assistance to support a successful recovery includes donations to help with the costs associated with building a ramp for wheelchair access to/from the house, home adjustments for wheelchair access, a conversion van for transportation, and costs of a wheelchair not covered by Medicaid.
