Hi my name is Chris Tinnion I have organised this go fund me to assist my brother Peter Tinnion, who in 2018 was diagnosed with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis.
Since diagnosis Peter has overcome so many health symptom hurdles to continue to live his life with minimal impact, throughoutbdeoning health and the on set of the symptoms associated with the condition.
Unfortunately the condition has rapidly advanced over recent months and to continue to have any form of independence he now needs a lightweight wheelchair with power adjustments, that can be loaded into a car, as his mobility is now greatly reduced.
This reduction in his ambulant movement is also presenting as a fall risk, as he continues to utilise other aids to assist him being mobile as his health declines. This is significantly impacting his quality of life within the home, his ability to have quality family time in and out of the home and his workplace.
Therefore I am attempting to raise £6,500.00, to ensure his physical and mental wellbeing dont suffer any further from the continued decline of this condition.
We have tried various avenues to source funding , support and assistance, with assessments taking place. However extended waiting times and changing processes are extensive with deadlines being a minimum of 9 months away.
Peter has worked all his life remaining as an air conditioning engineer until it became clear that he couldn't continue for health and safety reasons. His employer continues to provide excellent asupport and has adapted his role to the benefit of themselves and Peter, even undertaking significant modifications to ensure they can accommodate his changing health needs in a safe and secure environment.
The purchase of a lightweight wheelchair with electric assistance will significantly benefit Peter in his home and work life. Improving his mental health in so many ways as currently Peter is unable to socialise with his immediate and extended family, or work colleagues beyond his working hours due to his health limitations.
Simple pleasures we take for granted a movie night, meal out, walking the dog, shopping, holidays (uk or abroad) are all out of reach.
Peter's own words:
Losing the ability to continue my career as na air conditioning engineer, which is a physically demanding job, has had a significant impact on my self esteem, confidence and taken my mental health to a critical point.
Since diagnosis the condition has taken so much from me in terms of everyday life, I no longer drive, my job role has changed, I have moved to downstairs living, and no longer socialise with family, friends or work colleagues physically; its all virtually and limited to planned weekends throughout the year to reduce excess fatigue.
As a 54 year old these changes and loss of independence is devastating and impacts both myself and my immediate family. Personally my declining health has been hard to accept as it has taken so much away from me and my family.
Over the past year and a half I have chosen to stop driving which has resulted in a loss of independence as I can no longer go out whenever I please.
Having a lightweight electric wheelchair will give me back a quality of life to be able to safely have independence as well as dignity and enable me to be present within my family life and enjoy life's simple pleasures and enable me to ensure I can continue to access work for the foreseeable future.
Chris Final Word
I hope by reading about Peter’s condition and the detrimental affect it has had on his and his family’s we can raise the money to buy Peter the equipment he needs to regain his independence and improve his mental health.
