Raise legal fees for Shawn Wood

As you know, our friend Shawn Wood has worked tirelessly as an advocate for people who use drugs. Over the past six years, he has drawn on his lived expertise to support others in community and those incarcerated, advised on provincial research, programming, and advocacy projects, was an active member of a provincial drug user coalition, created and facilitated several mens groups, volunteered for community and family reconnection projects with MCFD and other groups in the north and across BC including, the BCCDC, FNHA, BCCSU, Northern Health, UVic/CISUR, and UBC... all while raising a daughter and staying connected to his family, culture, and the land.

Despite the positive work he does, Shawn continues to be targeted and penalized by the criminal (in)justice system. After months in prison, Shawn was released, only to be charged again for reacting to racial slurs from a prison guard while spending days in solitary confinement/segregation.

As co-workers, friends, and allies of Shawn, we are outraged at how the criminal (in)justice system continues to persecute and keep him trapped in systems of poverty and imprisonment.

We need your help to free Shawn and hold the system accountable! I have a good friend who is a helluva criminal defence lawyer in Vancouver, and has agreed to take on Shawn’s case for a $5600 retainer to cover legal fees. Please help us bring justice back into focus so Shawn can raise his daughter, keep working in harm reduction and mens' wellness, and start his land-based healing centre with his loving partner Selena.
