Hi. We are SCAN Costa Blanca, a registered charity, working to save cats and dogs in the El Verger area of the Costa Blanca. We run an animal charity and shelter and act as the voice of abandoned cats and dogs. We work tirelessly to find new homes for the animals in our care, to provide safety and food, access to veterinary care and, of course, love.
Give Prima the Second Chance She Deserves!
Prima was found abandoned and alone on a busy motorway near El Verger, ignored by countless passers-by—until one kind hero stopped and saved her life. Starved, abused, and left for dead, Prima’s story is sadly all too common—but it doesn’t have to end here.
With the help of compassionate officers at the El Verger police station, Prima was rushed to SCAN for urgent care. Our team welcomed her into the shelter, offering warmth, food, and gentle love. She’s slowly regaining her strength, but she’s still too weak for her injured leg to be x-rayed. We are grateful to the Police for their speed and call to action and their compassion in coming back twice already to check her progress.
Despite everything, Prima’s spirit shines through.
Despite the horrendous side effects of starvation, she greets us with trust, takes food delicately from our hands, and allows a gentle pat—proof that hope endures.
We see dogs like Prima far too often. While laws have changed, so much more must be done. We’re determined to fight for Prima and every animal in our care—but we can’t do it alone.
You can make a difference today. Can you help cover Prima’s veterinary bills and ongoing care? Every donation, no matter the size, helps us nurse Prima back to health and gives hope to so many more in need.
Donate now and be part of Prima’s journey to a brighter future. Thank you for standing with us!
UPDATE 14 DECEMBER 2025
Thanks so very much to all our generous supporters who have contributed so far to Prima’s care and rehabilitation. We are in awe of you.
She is steadily improving, having gained about 2 kilos. Her health is still poor, in fact she had to have an emergency ride to the vets last week as she was bleeding heavily. A side effect of starvation, sadly. We continue to fight for her right to a lovely future, where she will be a cherished part of a family.
Her resilience has shown a little this week. Although still limping, one volunteer has reported a small tail wag. She is receptive to a little fuss and is enjoying new food and a warm coat, which was donated last week.
We are continuing to raise vital funds for Prima, as we don’t know what lies ahead for her medically. Her leg is causing some concern and she is due to have an x-ray very soon.
