Raise Funds for Harvard Graduate School

Hi,

My name is Tamara, and I have a dream of becoming an Organizational Psychologist.

You may be wondering what an Organizational Psychologist even does. Well, what people in this field do is look at how workplace structures, leadership practices, and HR processes impact things like employee performance, well-being, and morale. In short, Organizational Psychologists work hard to make companies great places to work!

About Me?

I’m a 39 year-old African American & Puerto Rican wife and mother who recently graduated from college with a B.A. in Social Psychology and Organizational Leadership. Given life’s twists and turns, I was a late bloomer when it came to college, but as they say, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” With that said, I re-enrolled in college at the age of 36 and loved every second of school. I graduated with the highest honors as well as the deepest gratitude for fulfilling a lifelong dream. ‍

What Now?

During my senior year of college, I researched many graduate programs in the field of Organizational Psych, but had trouble landing on a program that I felt possessed the desirable amount of rigor and innovation in their curriculum. That is, until I realized that Harvard has a graduate program in the field!

Getting into Harvard has always been a dream of mine…well, a pipe dream more accurately. I say this because I dropped out of HS due to severe mental health challenges, and I knew that in spite of my intellectual gifts , there was no way I was getting into Harvard with a GED. ‍♀️ We also all know that when it comes to many elite institutions, the admissions process relies heavily upon your ability to leverage social capital, which is not something that Black and Hispanic inner city kids like me grow up having.

But guess what? Harvard is doing something really amazing. They realized the college admissions process is not always equitable, and they decided to make it possible for people like me to get into their program based on merit alone.

Their “earn your way in” process grants formal admission to their university if you pass 3 core classes in your chosen field of study, which I think is amazing! The caveat, however, is that I need to pay out of pocket, and the cost of those 3 classes is $9,300 (excluding costs of books/materials).

I have already registered for the Spring 2023 semester and intend to get this done by any means necessary. In addition to the coaching and consulting projects I have the privilege of working on, I also drive for Uber part time! And while I trust in my ability to figure out my finances, I decided it would be awesome and even inspiring if I brought my community into this endeavor with me.

Your support of this fundraising campaign, in the form of donations or shares, means the world to me.

If you made it this far, you rock and I appreciate you!
