Hi all! This is Hugh and Frances, Evie's siblings.
We are writing to you as a family and on Evie’s behalf, as they are currently dealing with some serious medical issues. Those that know Evie and our family know that they received a heart transplant at the age of 2 and has had many surgeries, battles, and health scares since then. For the past 10 years, Evie has been quite healthy, but last week began feeling some light chest and shoulder pain. We took Evie into the ER on Wednesday Jan 3, and quickly learned of some serious complications with their heart. Evie was then airlifted and hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic ICU where they were best suited to try and help the very life-threatening condition Evie was in. As of Sunday Jan 7, Evie is still at Mayo having completed one of several critical surgeries that are on the horizon in the coming days/weeks. Evie is doing better, but things are complex and will take some time to correct.
To make a scary situation worse, a few days ago our beloved family cat Kylo started to seriously struggle. On Friday Jan 5, we siblings came back home to check on our pets and determined Kylo had to also be admitted to animal ICU. He was diagnosed with diabetes, but his sudden deterioration happened with the worst timing- right when the whole family was rushing down to Mayo to be with Evie at the beginning of their hospital stay. In those two days, we were not able to closely see how bad his health was getting. Right now we are doing our best to give him all the vet care we can to help him pull through. We came back home to him in a very critical condition, which is proving difficult for vets to pull him out of. He needs some more time in order for this to happen, but the cost is growing quickly. Evie has had limited updates on Kylo due to their current fragile situation, and our parents are very busy staying by Evie’s side this whole time.
Ev is already fighting so hard with their own battle down in Rochester. We want to give Kylo every chance he can to make a recovery so that we can give Evie some good news once they are feeling better.
We would be so grateful for any financial help to cover vet costs during this incredibly difficult time for our family. We want to make sure that Evie has their furry best friend waiting for them whenever they make it home.
