Melrose Golf Club Great Crested Newts Habitat Project.
Melrose Golf Club (MGC) is a community sports club run by volunteers which delivers golf for all people from Melrose and the surrounding area. MGC currently has 190 registered members. As a community club, MGC seeks to increase participation in golf among people in the local area. The Club’s objective is to play and foster the game of golf, with an aim to making a positive contribution to peoples mental and physical health, as well as provide community activity for the area.
On account of the recent discovery of Great Crested Newts (a protected species) on the land that forms the golf course, Melrose Golf Club requires support to implement a new working plan for the greenkeeping staff. The new programme will allow the protected species habitat to be maintained, and the regular works programme associated with the golf courses to continue within the legal restrictions associated with the protected species.
The funds raised will go towards the purchase of new more efficient greenkeeping machinery to allow greenkeeping staff time to maintain the habitat and the golf course going forward.
