Theo's Snowdon hike for Group B Strep
Hello!
My name is Theo, I am 11 years old, and on Friday 30th May I hiked Snowdon with my Dad to help raise awareness of Group B Strep at birth and raising money for "Group B Strep Support UK".
I contracted Strep B at birth and consequently pneumonia but thanks to one of the amazing nurses at my hospital who pushed more than once for me to be checked, it was caught soon enough for me to be ok but so often the early signs can be missed.
Group B Strep Support is a UK charity working to stop group B Strep infection in babies. They educate new and expectant parents, doctors, and midwives about group B Strep and provide information and support to affected families.
"Group B Streptococcus (GBS or Strep B) is the most common cause of severe infection in newborn babies, causing sepsis, pneumonia, or meningitis. The survival rate for newborns with early-onset Group B Strep (GBS) infection is generally high with prompt treatment, but there's still a significant risk of death and potential long-term disabilities."

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page, and I would be so grateful for your support.
Thank you,
