Send Off a True Pirate: Celebration of Life for Lorren “LoLo” Lancaster

Our dear friend Lorren “LoLo” Lancaster lived life exactly the way he wanted — boldly, humorously, and surrounded by the people and places he loved.

LoLo was a true original. He proudly called himself a Spaniard, loved brewing beer, and believed beer was basically a food group. If you ever met him, you remember him — his laugh, his sharp mind, and his completely unique way of interacting with the world.

He was a botanist, a craftsman with tools, a collector of Tikís, and a man who believed Underberg was medicine. LoLo had friends scattered across California, Oregon, and New Mexico, and he brewed beer in many places along the way.

He was funny.

He was feisty.

He found trouble in the best possible ways.

And in one of his most LoLo habits, he claimed he slept best on a pile of hops in the brewery.

LoLo was also a private man, but the impact he had on the people around him was anything but small.

He passed surrounded by lifelong friends in a place he loved, and now we want to honor him the way he asked.

Because LoLo had a very specific final request.

He asked to be cremated, placed inside a cannonball, and fired into the ocean.

And honestly… that is the most pirate send-off imaginable.

So we’re going to make it happen.

Our Plan

We want to hold a big beach celebration of life in Humboldt County — the kind of gathering LoLo would have loved.

Friends will bring stories, music, and of course beer. We’ll celebrate the wild spirit he was and send him off properly.

The funds raised will help cover:

⚓ Cremation and memorial arrangements

⚓ Creating the cannonball memorial for the ocean send-off

⚓ Travel support to bring LoLo’s children and loved ones to Humboldt

⚓ Beach celebration logistics and permits

⚓ Food, beer, and gathering supplies for the community memorial

⚓ Any remaining end-of-life costs

LoLo had friends everywhere, and we know many people will want to be part of honoring him.

If you ever shared a beer with him, heard one of his stories, or simply remember the unforgettable way he moved through the world — we invite you to help send him off in true pirate fashion.
