I’m once again trying to pay the medical bills that come with the blessing of transgenderism. I already spend most of my money (outside of rent) on therapy and HRT, so the newest addition of trying to fund a hysterectomy makes me squirm.
To slightly overshare, for some random reason my body just isn’t responding to the testosterone I’ve been on for nearly 2 years in all the ways I want it to. I’m really happy with the plateauing of 90% of the changes (ie voice, muscle placement, facial hair) but randomly I’ve not been able to stop producing the oestrogen that causes menstruation. Most people on T need a hysterectomy at some point anyway because of the effect of the hormones obviously damaging the uterus, but usually that’s long after periods stop. I’ve been taking progesterone pills but the dysphoria of that alongside the general dysphoria of this issue means I am in real need of a hysterectomy.
Because of trans healthcare being disregarded so much, finding the right doctor to perform this surgery has been difficult. Because of the length of time I’ve been on testosterone, alongside the fact I sit outside of the gender binary as well as the general lack of knowledge on trans individuals, I’m unable to get onto any NHS waitlists at this point. Obviously the internet is filled with hospitals and doctors who offer hysterectomies for cis women, but there are very few who I would feel comfortable seeking help from, where I know I would be treated as myself.
This, of course, comes at a cost. The only providers I have found are obviously private and because of the niche are able to charge more. The place I’ve been most recommended is around £7k for the surgery. On top of this would be the various costs of healing - taking time off of work etc.
And so, because of all the help towards my top surgery in 2022 that I got from a gofundme, I am awkwardly and embarrassingly back here to ask for some more help. Any and everything is much appreciated. Thank you loads xxxxx
