“Raindance” Maggie needs your help

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about Maggie. Her and I have been inseparable since the day I got her at 7 1/2 weeks. We spend pretty much 90% of our time together from going to work each day, road trips, our 2.5 mile walks each day, going to our favorite restaurant down the street “tipsy chef”, or even just a quick trip to the store. She not only like a child to me, she my best friend.

About 1 1/2 months ago Maggie went in for surgery to remove several masses from her skin both on top and underneath. The doctor believed that they were skin sarcomas due to the sun. She had a really rough go at it because her five location spots of removal all got infected. She had to get res-sutured and stapled two times after her surgery which I’m sure wasn’t any fun for her.

Just when she started to heal up from that I began to notice that she was a little lethargic but I figured maybe it was due to that we weren’t exercising and socializing the way that we were used to. Last week I noticed she wasn’t eating normally and thought maybe she just wasn’t feeling well. By the end of the week her belly began to swell so I took her in immediately.

After many tests, an ultrasound, and X-rays the doctor discovered a tumor in both her liver and spleen. 2 lbs of fluid were removed from her belly and all cultures were sent out to the lab. On Monday night I got the news that she has mast cell cancer. On Tuesday I had to take her back into emergency because her belly was filling up again. This time they removed 4lbs of fluid. The instructions from my vet was to get her to an oncologist immediately.

Cancer centers within a 60 mile radius were all booked until mid June. I took the soonest one I could get in the end of may. By either prayers or just luck there was a cancellation and she was seen today by an amazing oncologist Dr schuh. The doctor was very honest with me and informed me that Maggie is in a dire situation. Her cancer is advanced, but there are good signs. Her bloodwork has come back practically perfect and she is in physically very good shape. She believes Maggie has fight in her and says that steroids and chemotherapy could give her more time. There is no telling how she will react to the chemotherapy until we try. We began the steroids and the chemotherapy today along with a regiment of antacids to help her from going into anaphylactic shock.

I would never put Maggie in any discomfort or through something that I thought would cause her pain. The doctor feels confident enough to tell me that it is worth a try.

I have such a hard time asking people for help, but between the previous surgery, the emergency room visits, the vet visits, and now the oncology visit, this is absolutely more than I am capable of handling and desperately need your help. Anything and everything helps.

If you’re unable to contribute money, please say a prayer and repost this.

If you’ve met Maggie you know what an amazing dog she is. She absolutely adores people and loves her friends. Her and I both thank you so much for anything you’re able to do.
