The City of Gainesville is installing three rainbow crosswalks in downtown Gainesville on October 11th, just in time for National Coming Out Day. The Pride Community Center of North Central Florida (PCCNCF) requested that the City kick off the Art in Crosswalks program with the rainbow designs to celebrate the diversity of Gainesville and recognize the importance of the LGBTQ+ community as part of the fabric of the city. The crosswalks are located immediately adjacent to City Hall on NE 1st Street, on SE 1st St in front of the County Administration Building and on SE 1st Street in front of the Hippodrome Theatre.
PCCNCF will be hosting a special event during the installation to educate the community about the importance of the rainbow colors and to uplift the transgender and bisexual members of the LGBTQ+ community by recognizing their flags as well. We will display and discuss the “Philadelphia Pride Flag” to acknowledge the inclusion of people of color as part of the LGBTQ+ community. The event details, location and exact times will be announced shortly.
The Pride Center has agreed to raise funds to support this effort and we are asking for your donation to make this a success. Your donation will demonstrate to the City and the surrounding areas that the LGBTQ+ community will support those who stand up for us.
