Rainbow baby = baby after loss
Ever since Elise and I started dating, we’ve dreamed of starting a family together. We’ve imagined family dinners, vacations, first days of school––all of it in anticipation of having children together. Unfortunately, this dream isn’t coming easily, and we’ve reached the point where we are asking for help to build our family.
Over the last two years I have gone through two cycles of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and unfortunately, had two miscarriages. This journey has been physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging, as well as isolating to go through during a pandemic. Last year with the help of a new fertility clinic, I underwent surgery and had a biopsy done. These two procedures uncovered some reasons as to why I experienced two losses and have since been medically resolved. Our team of doctors feel confident that with the information gained from surgery, biopsy, and last two pregnancy attempts, we finally have the correct protocol planned. Our doctors have said that with these final adjustments for this upcoming cycle, they believe we will finally achieve a live birth.
However, we need some help getting there.
Currently, we are out of embryos to try with. This process has not been fully covered by insurance, and after thousands of dollars invested, we are financially tapped out. I need to do another egg retrieval in order to hopefully create more embryos that will become a baby.
What an egg retrieval costs:
Pre-retrieval testing: $1,600
Egg retrieval and two embryo transfer procedures: $13,000
Medications for egg retrieval and embryo transfers: $3,500
Donor sperm: $1,300
Genetic testing for viability of embryos: $3,600
Total: $23,000 (Goal amount listed above is adjusted to include donations that have come in via checks or Venmo)
Elise and I aren’t ready to give up yet. More than anything, we want to be parents, and we have been trying so hard for a such long time to make that happen. We are so thankful to our small group of friends and family that have supported us thus far and who want this almost as much as we do. But after all we’ve been through, we finally feel ready to be open about our journey to a larger circle of support.
We understand that not everyone is familiar with the IVF process (it’s so much information, even for us!) so feel free to let us know if you have any questions. With your support, we hope to bring a new life into this great community of friends and family. We would also be grateful for you to share this link if you feel comfortable doing so. If you feel more comfortable sending a donation a different way (in person, mail, etc.) let us know. You can also Venmo us at @Elise-Ruiz-Hom. Thank you in advance for your encouragement, support, and love.
Love,
Lydia and Elise Ruiz-Hom
