Rain in the Desert Short Film

Donation protected
We are Ben Root and Luisa González, two undergraduate Radio-Television-Film students at the University of Texas at Austin, currently in pre-production for our undergraduate thesis “Rain in the Desert.” Set in a near future in which water is extremely scarce, a young woman struggles to find a sustainable way to survive until an unexpected visitor on the verge of death changes her course forever. Utilizing the vast backdrop of the sprawling West Texas desert, our story explores the plausible and near consequences of continued water misuse in Texas while touching on themes of isolation, resilience and humanity in times of crisis.

While the University provides us with insurance and access to some film equipment, we are responsible for the remaining costs associated with making this film come to life. Some of these include location rental, lodging, transportation and food for cast and crew, production design and various expendables such such as gels, diffusion and other miscellaneous gear, to name a few. Your support will ensure that we make the impactful film this important topic deserves.

Additionally, as this is a film that aims to raise awareness about the dangers and challenges in the event of water scarcity, we will be donating 10% of the total fundraised amount to the Texas Water Conservation Association, www.twca.org, a Texas-based non-profit organization dedicated to protect and manage Texas water resources by acting as advisors to designated governmental agencies responsible for water resources and stimulating public awareness at state and national levels.

Production will take place during from March 17-21, 2019 in Terlingua, Texas and it is scheduled to screen in the Texas Union Theatre towards the end of the Spring 2019 semester.  In addition, it will also be submitted to a number of festivals under the ‘“short film” category once completed. Please consider contributing and spreading the word with your friends, we cannot express enough what your support means for us and our careers. Please visit our project’s Facebook page (@raininthedesertfilm)  for more information on our amazing crew members, production updates, and cool behind-the-scenes photos.

Again, thank you for your time and interest in our project! We look forward to sharing it with you soon.

Much love,

Ben and Luisa.
