Hi sweet friends & community! Mikey here.
This winter, I got a grant from the Cedar Cultural Center to create new music centered on our collective relationship to the climate crisis. These songs are so dear to me, and I'm hoping to record them along with some other new ones this fall. The album will be called "Rain in Every House" by (new band name!) SpectacleCase.
Recording music is really expensive and to complete this project I’ll need your help. Truthfully, it feels vulnerable and hard to ask for money (especially in Minneapolis this year) but I have been told this music is useful for addressing that climate-anxiety-bubble that lives inside all of us and I want to make that feeling accessible and record while the music is all still fresh. My hope is that by recording and distributing these songs I can offer a space for us all to sit in our feelings about the climate without getting too overwhelmed, then channel our emotions into real action.
All the music will be available free for download on Bandcamp & all streaming platforms (not Spotify). If you donate, you can have any future physical copies of this music I make or stop by the merch table at a show and grab anything for “free”. Any money made from streaming or online purchases will get donated to one of the many local groups doing environmental advocacy (likely Save the BWCA or EPNI Roof Depot).
I want to do this well and pay everyone involved fairly, so I am estimating that studio time will cost ~$1,200, Mixing ~$400, Band fees ~$2,400. I'm going to be filling in lots of gaps with my own money, so anything you can offer helps so so much.
Love you all, thanks for supporting local art <3
