Raiders Foundation - In memory of Philip Carter

Hi everyone! My good friend Philip Carter passed away from a long fight with liver cancer last week. I met Phil during one of my hospitalizations for Cystic Fibrosis. I was walking around the hospital at a similar pace to him (fast!) and he asked if I wanted to take a lap. To his wonderful wife's relief, I said yes. The rest of his stay we would go for a daily walk or I would attend his difficult treatments. Phil would come to San Diego for his specialty therapies, which I always made sure to be a part of, and he even tried fly out to be bedside for a few of my stays even though he lives in the Bay Area! I wouldn't let him.

Phil was a great person, spending his time planning philanthropic events with his Freemason brothers, laughing with his wife Lois, hosting the family, and being a general joy to be around. One thing Phil loved, to a fault, was the Oakland (LV) Raiders. As a long-time season ticket holder he stood by his team win or lose. The Raiders moved into a new city this year, which meant a new stadium. The Raiders organization is offering fans a unique opportunity to buy bricks with personalized messages that will be part of the stadium with all proceeds benefitting the Raiders Foundation (https://www.raiders.com/community/raiders-foundation) which supports community and civic health through military/veteran support and youth development. I want to honor Phil's memory, a former military man, by putting a brick in his name so he can forever be part of his team.

My goal is to raise $1,000 for a larger brick (smaller bricks being $850) by the time of his service which I will be attending on October 17th, so I can surprise his wife/family. Any excess donations will either go to helping pay for funeral expenses or donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which I know is his charity of choice after losing our bet in in the Week 1 Panthers vs Raiders game. I will be coordinating with his wife in purchasing the brick and final expenses.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and I deeply appreciate any donations!
