Hello everyone, if you have a moment, I would like to tell you about a lovely lady named Rahel who we met in Ethiopia this past summer…
Rahel Goshu is a 27 years old single mother to a 6-year-old boy named Yeabsira (meaning “Gods creation”). She was born and raised in a small town called Hara-Kalo, Ethiopia. Despite the many hardships life has thrown at her, she has managed to complete her Associate's degree in Clinical nursing and is currently working on furthering her education by pursuing her bachelor's degree in the same field.
For as long as she can remember Rahel has been battling chronic pain in her left leg.
There isn’t a spinal specialist she hasn’t gone to over the years. Up until recently, she was able to somewhat control the pain but the pain has worsened over the past year.
During her most recent visit to Addis Abeba, Rahel heard of a new doctor she had not seen before. This doctor diagnosed Rahel with a condition called “SPINAL REFLEX DYSTROPHY” and informed her that he nor any other doctor in the country has the resource to treat her condition and if she doesn’t get the proper treatment she is going to lose function of both her legs. The left leg is almost out of function but there is still some hope of saving it with the proper treatment.
The Doctor suggested she travels to Thailand or India to explore her treatment options. Rahel is currently in an EXCRUCIATING pain and is unable to sleep AT ALL. Rahel needs a general check-up, neurology consultation, and surgery if she has any hopes of saving her legs. Life is hard enough for women, especially for a single mother in these parts of the country, one can only imagine what’s it’s like for those unable to work and provide for themselves.
Whatever you’re able to help with will go directly to Rahel and her medical cost.
Please let’s do what we can to help Rahel keep her health and her legs. This woman is such a beautiful and kind soul. She spreads nothing but laughter and positivity wherever she goes.
The general travel and treatment cost is estimated to be around $15,000.
Your time is valuable so thank you all very much for taking the time to read this and helping Rahel in whatever way you can.
If you have any questions on her progress, please let me know and my family and I would be honored to keep you updated.
Mararti and Itu Genene.
