Story: Our little Rafa needs a kidney transplant and the time is almost here. Within the next two to four months he will receive his transplant at Boston Children's Hospital hopefully from his dad, Javi (some donor compatibility tests are still in the works).
Rafa is the biggest blessing of our lives but as you can imagine this year as not been easy. Between his 5-week NICU stay, several daily medications, ER visits, hospital admissions, four surgeries, and nightly dialysis treatments it has been a rollercoaster. This is why we are thrilled about his upcoming transplant which will enable him to live a full and happy life.
During the time of Rafa's transplant we will incur many extra expenses. By raising funds, we are hoping to bring Javi's parents up from Puerto Rico to stay with us to help take care of Rafa and Javi as they recover. This involves the expenses of their travel and taking unpaid time off work. Javi will also be out of work for part of this time. In addition, we will be incurring extra food, parking, and some copay expenses.
It's never easy to ask for financial help but it will go a long way to easing the burden of our hospital stay and healing process at home. We hope that you will consider donating and that you will keep the Melendez family in your prayers as we go forward. Thank you and God bless you!
