GCU Goalkeeper - Rafa Guerrero Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Hi, This is Tara Davis, family friend of Bianca and her kids.

As many of you know, Rafa suffered a traumatic brain injury and an extensive facial laceration during his GCU soccer game, Saturday 9/25/2021 right after colliding with a player during the final minutes of the match. So many of you have reached out but Bianca has not had any significant updates. He remains in ICU in stable condition. He has been having what we call “mumble moments” filled with one or two words and sentences. On Tuesday morning, he opened his eyes and spoke for the first time. He has no recollection of what happened. The conversation was clear but brief. He is resting now and receiving exceptional care at a local Phoenix trauma center.

There are a lot of unknowns with his neurological injuries at this time and will have to take things day by day. The ICU staff stated Rafa’s injuries were the worst sports injury they have EVER seen across all levels of competition.

He will likely be transferred to a residential rehabilitation facility for extensive therapies. At this time, we don't know what is or will be covered, nor how long Bianca will need to be out of work to care for him. Any and all help will help tremendously as the family navigates through this traumatic event.

Thank you and God Bless!
