Rafael Vasquez arrived in the United States in 2020, carrying nothing more than a suitcase, a degree in engineering, and a heart brimming with hope. He had fled his beloved Venezuela, a place that had once been vibrant but had become a land where opportunities had faded away. Through the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, Rafael grasped onto a lifeline—a chance to rebuild his life in a country where dreams still held the potential to blossom.
Settling in Miami, Rafael quickly became a cherished member of his community, known for his unwavering dedication and warm spirit. Working as a civil engineer, he embraced the challenges of learning English late into the night, all while sending money back home to help his loved ones. He gradually built a network of friends who stepped in as a surrogate family, sharing laughter and support during difficult times.
However, in 2025, everything changed. New regulations imposed on the TPS program left Rafael facing the heartbreaking reality that he might have to leave the country he had come to call home. It felt like a thunderclap—a shattering reminder of how fragile his newfound life had become.
The uncertainty ahead was almost unimaginable: starting over once more in a foreign land—perhaps Canada, Spain, or somewhere else that would take him in. The thought of leaving behind the streets he had grown to love, the people who had become his family, and the life he had worked so tirelessly to create was almost too much to bear.
Starting anew in an unknown place is an enormous challenge that requires not just courage, but also resources and compassionate support. After exhausting all options, Rafael must leave the US on 11/7/25. Though this is an unchangeable circumstance for now, his friend and supporters want to help him with a soft landing. They ask that you consider making a donation to this effort.
If you believe in the power of second chances, the strength of the human spirit, and the promise that the American dream holds, we invite you to stand with Rafael. Share his story, advocate for fair immigration policies, and support organizations dedicated to assisting displaced individuals. Most importantly, let’s remind Rafael and others like him that they are not alone in this journey.
