Rafael has been diagnosed with Large Diffuse B Cell Lymphoma also known as Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This is a cancer that begins in the Lymphatic System. He was diagnosed this January 2023.
In November of 2022 he was having symptoms of a kidney infection and went in for a CT to see if he had a kidney stone. The results came back, and they found not only a kidney stone but an unknown mass in his abdomen. He needed a biopsy to determine the cause. In December he went in for the biopsy and in January he found out that it is Cancer. This is an aggressive fast-growing cancer, but the doctors are optimistic and believe it is treatable.
He was diagnosed with Stage 4 and has it in the abdomen and early signs of it in his spine.
Rafael is currently undergoing treatment at Swedish Cancer Institute and for the next 5 months will be receiving treatment. His treatment is Chemotherapy, but it must be inpatient treatment due to a condition with his heart where his ejection fraction on his left side of his heart is too low to receive chemo in an outpatient setting and requires a long stay each treatment in the hospital for close monitoring.
As most of us know, the treatments to kill cancer can be as challenging. Rafael will experience the various side effects associated with treatment, which is a list of physical issues that are both immediate, short-term, and long-term. Nausea and extreme fatigue, leg pain and head fog are just a couple of the lesser effects. Transportation to and from treatments and most household duties will fall to Rafael’s Wife and kids.
Rafael is going to be off work while undergoing treatment and if treatment goes well, he hopes to be back to work by summer.
Rafael has stayed positive and kept faith in God throughout.
All donations and support will go towards medical expenses (deductibles, co-pays, and maximum out-of-pocket expenses), treatments, and living expenses.
Thank you in advance for all your generosity, prayers, and support for Rafael in his fight against cancer.
He will beat this.
