My name is Catie, and I am the daughter of Rae Robertson. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting my mom—whether personally or professionally—you know what an incredible woman she is. Her kindness and compassion have always been the foundation of her character, and her honesty and integrity shine through in everything she does. These qualities have made her an extraordinary mother, nurse, sister, friend, and co-worker. Above all, though, my mom would say her most cherished title is “Nana.”
As I write this, my mother is facing yet another battle with cancer.
On June 29th, 2025—her 65th birthday—we rushed my mom to the hospital after she showed signs of a possible stroke. This happened while she was at church camp, serving as the camp nurse for the children, just as she has done for the past three years. Even when she wasn’t feeling well, she was determined to continue her work, caring for others and doing the Lord’s work. That’s just who she is.
Shortly after, we received a call that her condition was worsening. With the help of the church camp nurses and my husband, we got her to the nearest hospital in Silverton, Oregon. There, a CT scan revealed massive swelling and edema, as well as a tumor in the right frontal lobe of her brain.
Within just three days—on July 3rd, 2025—PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center acted swiftly to remove the tumor and send it for biopsy. In the week and a half since her surgery, my mom has already regained mobility in her left arm and leg. She is working tirelessly with her physical, occupational, and speech therapists to reclaim the quality of life she so deserves.
Now, my mom faces intensive radiation therapy for localized treatment of the brain, along with more scans and another round of chemotherapy. The tumor that was removed has been confirmed as a metastasis of the lung cancer she battled in 2023, which resulted in the loss of her left lung. This is going to be a long and difficult journey. I have never met anyone stronger than my mom, but even the strongest among us need help sometimes.
As if her health struggles weren’t enough, while my mom was in surgery, someone gained access to her home and tried to cash one of her checks at the bank, stole items from her house and compromised her identity. On top of everything else, she is now also dealing with the stress and complications of identity theft.
Anyone who knows my mom knows she would always rather do for others than have things done for her. Asking for help is not in her nature, and if she had her way, she would be the one giving, not receiving. But against her will, and because I know how much she deserves support, I am reaching out and asking for this help on her behalf.
That’s why I am humbly asking for financial support—not only for the mounting medical bills, but also for rent, utilities, and other essential living expenses. Your generosity will provide the peace of mind my mom needs to focus on her health and spend precious time with her grandchildren. Whether she will be able to return to work as a nurse remains uncertain, as her recovery presents some cognitive challenges.
Thank you all for your love, support, positive thoughts, and prayers. With your help, my mother can continue to live with the comfort, dignity, and joy she and her grandchildren so deeply deserve.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Catie
