The highlight of working from home during 2020 was being able to spend all day with our dog Rae, who is without a doubt the best part of our lives! After a crazy few months, in October 2020, CJ and I received the devastating news that our golden girl Rae has cancer. A mast cell tumor formed on her left elbow, a very difficult spot to perform surgery on due to the lack space for clear surgical margins. On January 13th she had a successful surgery where the veterinary team removed as much of the tumor as they could, without cutting into the surrounding tissues and muscles in her arm. During the procedure they saw that the tumor is intergraded in the surrounding tissue, meaning cancer cells still remain in her body.
Yesterday, Rae had her stitches removed and had scans which showed that, at this point, the cancer has not spread beyond her elbow! We now need to act quickly and do 15 radiation treatments over the next 3 weeks to try to kill all remaining cancer cells before they spread within her body.
The total estimate for the 15 sessions of radiation is $5,000 with added oncology costs down the line as treatment progresses.
At 6 years young, Rae still has a lot of life to live. We want to upgrade her to a house with a big fenced in yard and give her a fur and human sibling or two. My biggest wish, is to have Rae present at our wedding next summer. I simply can not imagine the biggest day of my life without my best friend.
