Rob's Spinal Injury Rehab

In May this year, my brother Rob had a terrible accident. He fell through a roof while working and broke his back. The accident damaged his spinal cord and left him unable to move or feel his legs below his knees.

He was airlifted to hospital and underwent emergency reconstructive surgery on his spine but damage to his spinal cord has left him with potentially life-changing injuries.

Rob’s determination to make the best of a bad situation has already seen him pull off some small but amazing achievements. He has regained some sensation and movement in his legs. We want to do everything we can to help him build on that. The NHS unit he is currently in has been hugely impacted by the pandemic leaving it understaffed and under-resourced. This has meant Rob has had no access to the rehab he so desperately needs at this crucial stage. He is in a hospital which is an hour and a half drive away, where he is receiving 45 minutes of physio a day with no access to the gym, hydrotherapy pool or even an exercise bike. For a young, fit guy to be so bedridden without hope of improvement and support has been tough.

We have found a facility closer to home that can offer my brother the intensive therapy he needs right now. It provides comprehensive physical and mental support with access to the equipment he needs to give him a fighting chance of reaching his full potential. He has already achieved so much by himself: he’s a stubborn and determined git at the best of times, so if anyone can do this, Rob can. And with all our help, it could make a big difference.
