Hi,
My name's Dylan Lanham and I need to raise $5,000 for my final short film as a student, Racket Racket—which I've promised my parents will be the last film I ever shoot in our house in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Racket Racket is about Keith, a criminal who’s moved on from his old ways and started a family in the suburbs. He's happily living his new life when an unexpected visitor from his past—his old partner, Gene—arrives at his front door. The next thing they know, someone is trying to kill them, giving them the chance to reconnect and squash old beef while they try to stay alive.
Why do I need your help?
Put plainly: I need your help to make this film right. While it doesn’t cost any money to write a compelling story, bringing it to life takes a lot more than waking up early on Sunday mornings (although that will also be required). You could make a movie for $0--but if that movie would be as good...well, I wouldn't be writing this.
What will donations go towards?
Another great question. Making a film involves a lot of people and expensive equipment, all of which needs to be transported from NYC to Fairfield, so a fair amount of the money raised will be used to rent a van for equipment and pay for our actors' train tickets.
Donations will also be used to provide meals for the cast and crew. Although I’ll be doing a lot of the cooking, it still costs a pretty penny, and every penny we raise will count!
Finally, when you make a movie with bloody violence, costumes and props are of the upmost importance, so donations will go a long way towards properly horrifying you; the audience.

What this Movie Means to Me
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to direct movies. But the real fun of it is making something that people really enjoy. If I can actually make a film that entertains as well as inspires a little more faith in humanity, then I will consider this project a success. Racket Racket is the kind of movie I want to see, and it reflects my feelings about the world. The characters are bad people who do bad things in a harsh world...but they want to be nicer to one another, and some even want to put some good into the world, despite the supposed futility of that goal.
But it all starts with you!
I’m not someone who finds asking for help very easy. In fact, I HATE feeling burdensome. But thinking of this short as something I am contributing—putting all my effort into making a movie that is seriously entertaining and fulfilling for the audience—makes me feel better about it, because I’m making a promise here that you won't regret a donation to Racket Racket!
